If other predators do not hunt an animal, then these are known as apex predators. Think of this as an animal food chain. Rabbits eat carrots, foxes eat rabbits and lions eat foxes. But can you think of an animal that hunts lions? Since they have no natural predators, this makes them an apex predator. (Although there is one exception: Hyenas occasionally hunt sick or very young lions for food.) An owl is another example of an apex predator since no other type of animal or bird hunts them. Owls also eat rodents, which eat worms and nuts that come from trees and dead leaves of our Earth.
